Darren Card

Ships production AI and leads product teams that deliver. Executive IC: GM, coach, player. First product leader four times. Founding CPTO, Lexful.

OPEN TO VP OF PRODUCT, CPO OR CPTO, SERIES A TO C OR US-SCALE. FRACTIONAL CPTO FOR AI-NATIVE TEAMS.

/ABOUT

Everyone can ship an agent now. Far fewer can tell you whether the output was good enough to put in front of a customer. That is the part I build, and I run the product organisation that ships it.

Most recently founding CPTO at Lexful: an AI-native platform from a blank page to paying customers in twelve months. I set the agent permission model with our principal architect, shipped an MCP server so outside agents called in under the same rules, and owned the evaluation framework that gated every release, with human review where a wrong answer cost a customer money. Lexful’s SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 controls were in place at launch, while the SOC 2 observation window ran. Token budgets, inference tiers, and credit-based pricing modelled to 75% gross margin.

Before that, first product leader at Cognota. I assessed the product in month one, recommended rebuilding the prototype into an enterprise-grade platform, then rebuilt the team and guided the rebuild from the data model up through the UI over seven months. That is where the LearnOps category came from. Deals went from four figures to six-figure multi-year terms, and the pivot was a key element of a $5.5M Series A led by Grotech Ventures in September 2023.

Product operations is the thread: first product leader at four companies, the most senior at three, with organisations of up to 20 people. People who reported to me now lead product at director and VP level. I still build, in Claude Code most working days since February 2026, on a production stack with an eval suite gating every change.

/SEATS

VP of Product, CPO or CPTO at a Series A to C company, or a US-scale seat. Fractional leadership for AI-native teams that need the operating model before the headcount.

  1. Dacard

    PrincipalMAR 2026 TO PRESENT
    Vancouver, remote

Applied AI studio and R&D for three kinds of company: software companies, agencies and service businesses. Specialists join by the project. Client work from 2026.

    • Studio work in progress, unnamed until each party agrees: a client, an environmental consultancy of about 90 people (system design, implementation plan and a working prototype), and a project with an experiential production studio (business case, packages, pricing and decks for a productised line).
    • Applied R&D: AI-coding upskilling and a working thesis that shipped work can be read for whether it landed.
Builder, Independent Product & Technology R&DAPR 2026 TO PRESENT

Find out what a product organisation should measure now that agents do the producing, and build the instrument. Solo and in public; R&D, with no users, customers or go-to-market.

    • Built a diagnostic: three frameworks, 88 scoring units, version-locked for comparison over time.
    • A pattern engine reads tension across frameworks (team ahead of product, build ahead of team).
    • Built Throughline: reads a product organisation’s whole stack, from strategy to go-to-market, to show the next move and the evidence. No model invents a number.
    • Built to read 50+ modern product tools, with an open read API and an MCP server; today it reads public record only, about one company, and is not used in client work.
    • Built in Claude Code with Next.js on Vercel, Turso, Clerk, Stripe, the Claude API, PostHog, Mintlify, Plain and Sentry.

R&DTwo R&D products live, the diagnostic and Throughline; Throughline reads one company’s public record.

    • Defined “good enough to ship” with design partners and owned the evals: regression suites, scored rubrics and human reviews.
    • Owned AI unit economics: token budgets, inference tiers and credit pricing modelled to 75% gross margin.
    • Lexful’s SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 controls in place at launch, while the SOC 2 observation window ran.
